The Poster Child for a Bad Mother-Detroit woman says she would kill her children again if she could
A Detroit, Michigan woman is the poster child for a bad mother. According to MLive, Mitchelle Blair told the court that she would kill her children again if they were alive today.
MLive quoted Blair as saying, “-if I had the chance to do it again, I would.” Blair pleaded guilty to killing 13-year-old Stephen Berry and 9-year-old Stoni Blair.
Mitchelle Blair told the court that she murdered the two because they raped her then six year old son, and that she hid their bodies for over a year so that she could continue to raise her other two children.
The court never found any evidence to validate Blair’s accusations that a rape occurred. Stephen Berry and Stoni Blair were found in a freezer after an eviction crew entered Blair’s apartment.
The other two children, a 17-year old girl and 8-year old boy, are now living with a family member.
The death of the children, who were homeschooled, resulted in State Democratic Rep. Stephanie Chang introducing a bill that will require that someone from the state check-up on a homeschool child at least twice a year.
Michigan is one of eleven states that doesn’t require regular check-ups on homeschooled children.
Mitchelle Blair will be sentence on July 13, 2015. Due to Michigan being one of 19 states that doesn’t have the death penalty, Blair will receive a mandatory life sentence for the deaths of her two children.
